Cub Scout Pack 1701

August 6, 2024 Update

Dear Pack 1701 Parents,

I wanted to provide you with an important update regarding our pack's charter. I am also including some history for transparency.

• On April 16, 2024, we (Bee Cave Scouting Exec and I) approached the LWE PTO to charter a new pack for LWE.

• On May 1, 2024, the Lakeway PTO agreed to charter Pack 1701. 

• On May 10, the Lakeway PTO announced our new pack through Konstella.

Since the announcement, a number of parents have voiced their concerns to the PTO, and the PTO has reconsidered our charter approval. 

On July 10, 2024, the PTO voted to not approve the charter for this coming year. 

Some of the factors the PTO cited for their decision included:

1. The potential need for additional security since we would be meeting on school property.

2. Existing scouting troops in the area.

3. Limited storage space at the school.

4. No demand for a new scout troop at LWE.

5. Many changes at the school this year.

Since July 10, we have been working to secure a new chartering organization. However, given that it takes a couple of months to plan a program for a pack, we would not be able to start until 2025 at the earliest.

I don't want any of your kids to miss out on scouting opportunities, so I encourage you to sign up with an alternative pack.

If we are successful in creating a pack focused on Lakeway Elementary for boys and girls, and you want to join, it is easy to transfer from one scout pack to another.

Starting in August 2024, Lakeway Elementary will be home to a Family Scout Pack for both girls and boys. Chartered by the LWE PTO, our pack will meet at Lakeway Elementary, aiming to offer an inclusive and integrated scouting experience for Lakeway Elementary families. Our focus is on creating a community-centered program that helps our children build character, learn citizenship, and develop personal fitness and leadership. Here’s how we plan to achieve this:

• School: We will be located at Lakeway Elementary, holding pack meetings and events at the school (schedule permitting) to facilitate easier engagement for scouts.

• Community: We align with Lakeway Elementary's strategic goals to "bring our community together" and "provide opportunities for parents and the community to volunteer and support the students on our campus." Our pack also fulfills the TECS requirement to offer a Patriotic Society Access to Students.

• Family: As a family pack, we welcome both boys and girls to participate, promoting an inclusive environment for all families to participate.
